Nahan Travel Guide
The pleasing hilly region of Nahan is situated in the state of Himachal Pradesh and is the centers of the oldest Sirmaur area. Nahan situated in the midst of the Shiwalik mountain range at a normal height of 932 m above from the sea level. Established in 1621, Nahan is recognized for its pleasing environs and wonderful scenes of the Himalayan Mountains.
It is also the major city of the former princely state of Sirmaur under control of the British and was a mainly farming city till 1857 when a foundry for manufacturing farming instruments was setup here. The foundry was then controlled by the British East India Company subsequent the Anglo-Gurkha war and the city performed a major part in the Anglo-Sikh and Anglo-Afghan war.
How to reach
By Air – There are no usual flights from Nahan to major cities of India. Chandigarh Airport is the closest airport to reach Nahan. Hire taxi or auto from outside the airport.
By Train – Nahan doesn’t have its own railway station, so you will have to arrive at Barog railway station a small hill station in Solan district that is nearest to it.
By Bus – You can easily get buses to reach Nahan from other major towns of India. Government and private buses are regularly operated from nearby cities like Chandigarh, Delhi, Amritsar and others.
Best time to visit
While Nahan is a beautiful hill city and can be traveled round the year, the best time to travel is in the months of late-September till mid-November when the weather is in good form and presents a delightful ambience with occasional showers during October.
